Aftercare Instructions

How you care for your tattoo in the first few weeks determines how it heals and how long it lasts. Follow these steps closely.

First 2–4 Hours

  • Leave the bandage or wrap on for at least 2 hours — up to 4 hours for larger pieces.
  • When removing, do it gently under lukewarm running water.
  • Do not re-wrap unless using a breathable second-skin bandage.

Days 1–3: Wash & Moisturize

  • Wash gently 2–3 times a day with fragrance-free soap and clean hands — no washcloths.
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Never rub.
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion (Lubriderm, Aveeno, or Aquaphor sparingly).
  • Expect redness, swelling, and oozing — this is completely normal.

Days 4–14: The Peel

  • Your tattoo will begin to peel and flake — do NOT pick or scratch it.
  • Keep moisturizing 2–3 times daily.
  • Avoid soaking in baths, pools, or the ocean until fully healed.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight. No tanning beds.

Weeks 2–4: Full Heal

  • The surface will look healed but deeper layers are still settling.
  • Continue moisturizing and sun protection.
  • Once fully healed, apply SPF 50+ sunscreen whenever exposed to sun.
  • If anything looks infected (excessive swelling, pus, fever) — see a doctor.

What to Avoid

Picking, scratching, or peeling the skin
Submerging in water (pools, hot tubs, ocean)
Direct sunlight or tanning beds
Tight clothing rubbing over fresh ink
Petroleum-based products like Vaseline
Working out heavily for the first 48 hours
